As September arrives, we’re taking the time to look back on an amazing summer here in Marbella! As usual tourists flocked to the area, with nearly 2 million passengers arriving at Malaga airport in June and 2.1 million arriving in July. Andalucia is the 4th most popular tourist destination in Spain, bringing in tourists from all over the world. It was good to see that the average spend per hotel guest increased by 3% compared to last year, so the value of each tourist is rising.

The events were very special, with concerts, parties and sports events making a big splash and drawing tourists and residents out to have fun. Starlite once again brought some of the world’s best musicians to perform in Marbella, with a great mix of Spanish and International artists. The Pet Shop Boys, David Bisbal, Jamiroquai, Luis Fonsi, James Blunt, Texas, Juanes and many more, delighted crowds up in Marbella’s hills. Many concerts sold out and attendance was high throughout the 6-week music festival.

Marbella’s many beach clubs also put on a show as usual, bringing in famous faces, amazing music and entertainment throughout the summer. Newcomer Playa Padre celebrated its first birthday, with owner Maria Bravo welcoming famous friends Manolo Santana, Ahmed Ashmawi and DJ and model Chelina Manuhutu. Nikki Beach, Ocean Club and La Sala by the Sea, once again pulled out all the stops to delight the crowds and keep Marbella firmly on the map as one of the coolest summer destinations.

Some big brands arrived in Marbella this year too, with the iconic Nobu group opening their very own hotel here in the grounds of the Hotel Puente Romano. Co-founders Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper all came to Marbella for the launch and over 100 leading travel and lifestyle influencers were invited to live the high life for the opening weekend. Touted as one of the most exciting hotel launches of the year, it put the spotlight on Marbella once more and made holidaymakers and property buyers sit up and take notice of our beautiful destination.

The cycling race La Vuelta de España started and finished in Malaga this year, with stages through Marbella itself and all the way up to Caminito del Rey. Cycling is huge in Spain and hosting the start and finish of this important race was a real honour for the area. The race not only brought thousands of cycling enthusiasts to Marbella, but also generated lots of excellent media exposure.

Thanks in part to all this interest and exposure we have had a very busy summer here at Marbella Living. We have been helping those holidaymakers who have fallen in love with the Marbella lifestyle to buy a property and start living the Marbella dream. This year we’ve seen more serious buyers over the holiday period, with a 20% increase in sales compared to 2017. As Golden Mile specialists, the buzz around Puente Romano has been a fantastic way to focus attention on this area in particular. Having Nobu and Dani Garcia’s incredible restaurants here, not to mention the fantastic bars and La Suite nightclub right on our doorstep is a big draw and adds to the charm and convenience of the Golden Mile.

We hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays and will be back again soon. If you want to see if you can own a little part of this paradise, as a holiday home for yourself or to rent out as an investment property, please talk to us. Based on Marbella’s Golden Mile, we have lots of insiders’ knowledge and a passion for property in this area and we can help you find the perfect place.
